The heavy, closed, and dark atmosphere at work has been changing to bright, flexible and open space based on mobile devices. If one can freely make a space for face-to-face meetings as needed in addition to individual desks, it not only increases the application rate of spaces, but also expands the work efficiency. Starting with chair parts, bestuhl was launched as a brand of office chairs in 2011 and has established itself in domestic and international markets to help deal with office space changes at companies.
The products for this year include workstation T Series, conference/lecture table F.A.T10 Series, and M-TABLET Series. T Series is bestuhl’s first office system furniture solution in response to the changing trends of office environment that focuses on communication and collaboration. It is designed to arrange storage space, desks and partitions in various spaces per task. It also includes diagonal leg design to create a comfortable and lively atmosphere for work, and allows one to combine panel colors in a dynamic way with basic warm colors. Through internal cables and wire management, it maximizes the convenience of using electronic devices. On the other hand, the F.A.T10 Series improved the folding table function for meeting rooms and classrooms.
It is easy to load with various layouts and folding functions, and it focuses on its expandability with the IT device holders, storage space, and wire management. On the other hand, M-TABLET Series is a lecture chair with the concept of ‘Light, Compact’ as the lecture trend diversifies with various kinds of curriculum. It is easy to move around with casters and increases space efficiency with folding tables and seat boards. The folding system is characterized by 1-TOUCH function and its convenience. The product based on bestuhl’s know-how as a 25-year-old chair brand is evaluated as ‘masstige’ for reasonable prices.
The strength is the comfortable feeling from the flexible backboard and seat board mesh elasticity control function as its basics, and it is featured with ‘minimal design’ as the functions themselves become its design. The reason why three products produced in this year won awards at the K-Design Award, PINUP Design Award, and Good Design Award comes from its high quality and modern design based on its chair production experience. This is why people await bestuhl’s next step for creating office and lecture spaces with comfortable and minimal seats.

What was the reason to expand the business from chairs to furniture?
We determined that it would help us to increase the brand value and its competence in the market by adding other furniture to chairs. Most importantly, we were confident to produce bestuhl’s own office furniture based on the know-how of producing chairs for a long period of time.
What was the focus of office system furniture?
It is a change of office environment. Bestuhl design is embedded in various office furniture based on needs and office space changes by reflecting empirical elements that users can experience. With a standing holder for IT devices and an open-close type board for a multitap, bestuhl’s products prove their high competence in comparison with other companies’ products.
The techniques used for producing chairs might have been helpful to make office system furniture.
The importance of ergonomical efficiency for chairs, experiences and functionality of diverse materials, and specialized operability as strengths were helpful to produce system furniture without difficulties. Rather, chairs require higher techniques. Based on the technology developed for chairs, it was possible to design strong legs for heavy tables and produce products with outstanding durability and fine finish by using cloth on the screen. By applying three-dimensional chair design, unique table legs were sometimes produced.
How is the system furniture received?
Actually, many shops and sellers have contacted us. We also received positive feedback at small agency meetings and the exhibition at the INDEX (Dubai, UAE) in September, 2019. I think that is because we identified customers’ dissatisfaction with standardized office furniture and suggested our own solutions to satisfy them.
What furniture do you plan to produce in the future?
Bestuhl produced the first products this year as it aims to grow as a furniture company. We currently manage furniture projects for libraries and college education in addition to offices and classrooms. In particular, we think that there will be many changes in furniture systems at libraries as people pay more attention to spatial design at libraries. In response, we plan to produce furniture of new concepts.
